Review: Doo-Wop Reunion concert rocks history

From the "Bomp-a-Bomp, Dang-a-Dang" of "Blue Moon" to the groove of "Under the Boardwalk," the Doo-Wop Reunion concert rocked Mellon Arena on Friday night.

The annual December show attracts a crowd of mostly middle-aged devotees, along with younger, second-generation fans of the music that defined much of the '50s and '60s. As each act performed, the audience sang along to the catchy anthems of yesteryear, often with great vocal harmonies.

The show kicked off with the Marcels -- including North Side native Walt Maddox -- and continued with performances by acts including Kathy Young, Gene Chandler, the Drifters and more. The evening provided a delightful stroll down the street of classic music that defined a simpler era of American history. It was a dang-a-dang good time.
