MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- A section of US 30 in Plymouth was renamed in memory of Indiana State Police Master Motor Carrier Inspector Ralph "Ray" Reed Jr on Thursday.
Reed was struck and killed on US30 on August 3, 1995 when he stopped to inspect a semi.
US 30 between Pioneer Road in Plymouth to Oak Road in Marshall County, where Reed was killed, is now known as Ralph "Ray" Reed Jr. Memorial Drive
State Rep. Jack Jordan, R-Bremen and State Sen. Randy Head, R-Logansport sponsored the legislation urging INDOT to rename the highway.
Members of Reed's family attended the road naming ceremony at the INDOT Plymouth Subdistrict.
“He had a 18 year old daughter, Becky, a 15 year old son, Ralph III, who grew up without their dad and so this was a great way to honor them. To honor his wife Cathy," Representative Jordan said.
Reed was the first master motor carrier inspector killed in the line of duty.
