New Stuyahok man escapes from custody after alleged assault

Alaska State Troopers say a man escaped from custody in New Stuyahok after assaulting a woman and sending her a threatening text message. Troopers and Village Public Safety Officers have circulated information about the suspect throughout the community, to the media and nearby villages.

Troopers say they received a report on Valentine's Day around 4 p.m. that Moxie Andrew III had sent threatening a text message to a woman in New Stuyahok. Andrew was on felony probation and was taken into custody by a VSPO.

An investigation revealed that Andrew had allegedly sexually and physically assaulted the same woman prior to sending the text message. He was charged with second-degree sexual assault and domestic violence charges.

On Wednesday, Troopers say Andrew escaped from his holding cell and fled. AST and the local VSPO have partnered together but have been unable to locate the suspect.

Troopers say they victim is aware that Andrew escaped.
