Police: Man fatally shot in Mesa Christmas Day murder

Police in Mesa are looking for a gunman or gunmen in a Christmas Day murder.

At about 1 p.m. Friday, the Mesa Police Department responded to a shooting at an apartment complex near South Gilbert Road and U.S. 60, according to a police statement.

When officers arrived, they found 24-year-old Robert Gertos in his apartment with an apparent gunshot wound, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation revealed the shooting was possibly drug related, police said.

Mesa police are seeking the public's help with any information that would assist in the investigation. They said witnesses spotted a dark-colored passenger car fleeing from the scene soon after the shooting.
