Annual St. Charles Jazz Weekend to feature 27 live jazz performances

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership is excited to announce that the sixth annual St. Charles Jazz Weekend is set to host free, live jazz music Sept. 7-10 in downtown St. Charles. There are 27 different performances, set between 16 different venues for brunch, dinner, and late-night entertainment.

This year's venues include: ROX City Grill, Abby's Breakfast & Lunch, Brunch Café, Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, The Filling Station Pub & Grill, The House Pub, McNally's Traditional Irish Pub, First Street Plaza, Vintage 53 Wine Bar, Lazarus House, and The Office Dining & Spirits.

The venues will host many performances from jazz soloists to quintets that cover a range of jazz styles complementary for their in-house guests. Three-time Grammy Award winning saxophonist Frank Catalano will headline at The Filling Station Pub & Grill on Thursday evening and play again at The House Pub on Friday and Saturday evening.

This year's lineup features John Wojciechowski, Dana Hall and Grammy Award-winning artist Frank Catalano.

"Not only do we have some new venues this year, including Brunch Cafe, Vintage 53 Wine Bar and Abby's Breakfast & Lunch, we are pleased to continue partnering with businesses like ROX City Grill, McNally's Traditional Irish Pub, The Office and The House Pub," said Jenna Sawicki, executive director of the Downtown St. Charles Partnership.

The Jazz Weekend lineup is as follows, with all performances and venues subject to change.

• On Thursday, Sept. 7, the evening's music will begin with Frank Catalano from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Filling Station Pub & Grill, followed by Petra Van Nuis & Andy Brown from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Finery & Blacksmith Bar, Dave Eno from 7 to 10 p.m. at Vintage 53 Wine Bar; Dean Simms & the Hot Notes at 8 p.m. at Club Arcada; and Marshall Nelson from 8:30 p.m. to midnight at ROX City Grill.

• On Friday, Sept. 8, Jazz Fest will begin with Jack Macklin Trio from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Filling Station Pub & Grill; "The Voice" contestant Riley Elmore from 7 to 10 p.m. at Vintage 53 Wine Bar; Dean Simms & the Hot Notes at 8 p.m. at Club Arcada; Johnny Burnett from 8:30 p.m. to midnight at ROX City Grill; and Frank Catalano from 10 a.m. to midnight at The House Pub.

• On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Jack Macklin Trio will kick off the day's music from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Brunch Cafe; Joel Ream for Lazarus House's 20th birthday from 1 to 4 p.m.; DePaul University Student Jazz Ensemble from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at First Street Plaza.

Headlining in Chicago Jazz Festival the previous weekend, Dana Hall will perform "Spring" from 3 to 4 p.m. at First Street Plaza. Hall will be drawing from a sonic palette including mbira, electronics and various percussion instruments, as well as drums and cymbals, He will lead a version of "Spring" first introduced in 2013. Joining Hall will be saxophonist and bass clarinetist Geof Bradfield and bassist Clark Sommers, as well as saxophonist and flutist John Wojciechowski, a St. Charles North music teacher.

Matt Peterson will perform from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at 116 Gallery inside Mixology Salon; Alex Murphy Trio from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Filling Station Pub & Grill; Petra Van Nuis from 7 to 10 p.m. at Vintage 53 Wine Bar; Jack Macklin Trio from 7 to 10 p.m. at McNally's Traditional Irish Pub; Angela Ingersoll at 8 p.m. at Club Arcada; Peter Miletic from 8:30 p.m. to midnight at ROX City Grill; and Frank Catalano from 10 p.m. to midnight at The House Pub.

• The three days of jazz music will wrap up on Sunday, Sept. 10, starting with the Jack Macklin Trio at 9, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Abby's Breakfast & Lunch; Kingdom of Groove from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Baker United Methodist Church; Shout Section Big Band Jazz Ensemble from 1 to 3 p.m. at First Street Plaza; Andy Schlinder from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Office Dining & Spirits; Riley Elmore, Trio Life, Jon Conover, St. Charles North School Jazz Combo at Random Acts Matter Event from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mount St. Mary's Park. The fest will conclude with Grammy Award winning saxophonist Frank Catalano from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at The Finery & Blacksmith Bar.
