A St. Albans man faces multiple charges after allegedly stealing a car, leading police on a chase and attacking troopers.

It happened early Thursday morning after police received a report of a stolen SUV from the hospital in Littleton, New Hampshire, that was later tracked to the Lyndonville area. Police say Everett Simpson, 41, led troopers on a high-speed chase that ended on Route 5 when he ditched the car and tried to run. Troopers held Simpson at gunpoint, but he ended up hitting one of them multiple times in the head before being arrested.

Simpson was charged with Attempting to Elude, Aggravated Operating without Consent of Owner, Excessive Speed, Gross Negligent Operation and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. He was held on $20,000 bail.
