Hand-cut ribeye takes spotlight at Heidelberg in Cocoa Beach
Heidelberg Restaurant’s hand-cut Angus ribeye steak should arrive with a warning that it could cause uncontrollable drooling, for this 20-ounce beauty is the stuff dreams are made of for carnivores big and small.
The awe-inspiring $40 entree is in the spotlight at the Cocoa Beach restaurant this month, prepared with a caramelized onion demi-glace and paired with roasted Yukon gold potatoes and seasonal veggies, plus bread and butter. You can thank Meisterchef Edmund Deleuil for this impressive celebration of meat.
Add Heidelberg’s signature Four Season Salad or a fresh tossed Caesar Salad ($5) to help assuage any feelings of guilt you may harbor about not eating enough vegetables. The Caesar even carries a little history among the greenery.

“It’s a nostalgic recipe from Ramon’s Steak House in Cocoa Beach,” said Deleuil.
To enhance the holiday merry-making, Heidelberg has also rolled out a $40 prix fixe holiday menu for December. Choices include pork tenderloin served with a port wine demi-glace reduction and with Swiss roasted potatoes, the simple Swiss side dish known as roesti, and haricot verts, or those thin French green beans, if you prefer to go with the English translation.
Wild-caught flounder prepared in rustic meuniere style is available with Yukon Gold parsley potatoes and haricot vert, while Angus tenderloin of beef is served grilled with the smooth and creamy Sauce Bernaise, plus roasted Yukon Gold potatoes and the fortunately ubiquitous haricot verts.
An organic filet of chicken is also available, sautéed in a paprika cream sauce and served with those deliciously addictive Swiss egg noodles known as Spatzle and, drum roll, please, haricot verts.

The dining experience at Heidelberg becomes dinner-and-a-show Wednesday through Sunday, thanks to pianist Mark Hubrouck, who adds his easy listening piano stylings to the mix on those days of the week.
Heidelberg Restaurant, which Deleuil and his wife Heidi started more than three decades ago, is considered among the crème-de-la-crème of Space Coast dining establishments, with kudos from Zagat and Mobil and from La Chaine des Rotisseurs, the international gourmet society.
While the intimate restaurant minutes from the ocean is a date-night destination year round, it is particularly enticing during the holiday season, because Deleuil goes above and beyond with the menu.
Heidelberg and its sister, Heidi’s Jazz Club, will be open at 4 p.m. for Christmas Eve, and will also be ready to party while ushering in 2019 on New Year’s Eve. Performing on stage that evening will be Hella, along with the Ron Teixeira Trio.
Originally from Israel, Hella is known for her international style. Her New Year’s Eve show will include plenty of songs from around the world.
The evening begins with a four-course dinner that offers different options for entrees and desserts. The party also includes balloons, party favors and champagne.
Cost is $118, plus tax and gratuity. Because seating is limited, early reservations are strongly recommended. Call 321-783-6806.
