Extended Crime Spree Leads To Arrest Of Clearwater Man

Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man who reportedly stole a car from a local dealership and then went on a crime spree.

CLEARWATER, FL – Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man who reportedly stole a car from a local dealership and then went on a crime spree.

At about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 36-year-old Shanon Dubois of 306 S. Mars Ave., Clearwater, reportedly stole a 2016 Dodge Ram truck from the Dayton Andrews Dodge dealership at 2388 Gulf to Bay Blvd., Clearwater.

Soon after, he crashed the truck near the intersection of Gulf to Bay Boulevard and Northeast Coachman Road.

According to deputies, Dubois left the scene of the crash and drove the damaged truck to the Coachman Hill Preserve neighborhood near Northeast Coachman Road and McKenzie Court in Clearwater where he drove into the gates community and crashed into two residential mailboxes before crashing into the security gate and disabling the truck.

Deputies say Dubois fled the crash scene on foot and burglarized two occupied residences along the 2200 block of McKenzie Court. While in one of the homes, Dubois grabbed the homeowner's nanny by the wrist and chased her into the home. He then went into the garage and tried to steal a 2015 BMW. When he was unsuccessful, Dubois stole a 2012 Kawasaki motorcycle and drove to a home at 2297 Sharkey Road where he abandoned the motorcycle and reportedly burglarized an occupied residence. He left the home when the homeowner confronted him.

Next, according to deputies, Dubois burglarized a vehicle at 2244 Terrace Drive N. and battered the owner. He then tried to burglarize a truck. When that attempt failed, he tried to steal a semi-truck at Tommy's Produce at 410 Belcher Road, Clearwater.

Deputies were responding to the area when they were told Dubois was spotted near the Florida Central Credit Union at 2201 N.E. Coachman Road. Deputies located Dubois there and took him into custody.

After his arrest, deputies learned that Dubois had three outstanding warrants in Pinellas County for violation of probation for grand theft motor cehicle.

Dubois was charged with two counts of grand theft motor vehicle, one count of attempted grand theft motor vehicle, three counts of burglary to a conveyance, two counts of burglary to an occupied dwelling, three counts of leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, one count of burglary/battery, one count of battery and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
