WILMINGTON — The hearing on the proposed detox facility in town before the Zoning Board of Appeals set for Wednesday was postponed again. This time, the hearing is scheduled for Dec. 12.

The controversial topic last went before the board on Feb. 14, stretching out the night’s meeting more than three hours as resident after resident rose to voice their opposition. The proposal calls for a 48-bed drug and alcohol detox center at 362 Middlesex Ave.

According to the town’s Health Department, the hearing was postponed at the request of the ZBA chair because the Planning Board process for the proposal is not yet completed.

A group called the Concerned Citizens of Wilmington was formed last year to advocate against the proposal due to concerns with its location. Earlier this month, the group launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund expenses like signs, flyers, advertisements, consultations with professionals and more, according to the campaign description. In two weeks, the campaign raised more than $2,700 toward its $10,000 goal.
