A Lincoln-Way East High School administrator resigned this week following his arrest two months ago on DUI charges.

Alexander Petrakis, 39, an associate principal at the Frankfort high school who was charged in November with driving under the influence of alcohol, resigned effective Wednesday, a district spokeswoman said.

The Lincoln-Way High School District 210 Board unanimously approved Petrakis’ resignation at its Thursday meeting, according to board documents.

District spokeswoman Jennifer Hannon declined to answer questions about Petrakis’ resignation and whether it was related to his recent arrest. She also declined to say whether Petrakis had continued working after his arrest or had been placed on leave prior to his resignation this week.

Petrakis, of Bolingbrook, was stopped Nov. 23 after being seen driving 51 mph in a 35 mph zone and crossing over the middle dotted lane line near State and 2nd streets in Lockport, according to a police report.

The report, provided by Lockport police in response to a public records request, shows that Petrakis was charged with DUI and had a blood-alcohol level above the .08 percent legal limit, but does not include a narrative of the events that led to his arrest.

Neither Petrakis nor his attorney immediately responded to a request for comment on his arrest and resignation.

In addition to facing two misdemeanor DUI charges, Petrakis also received traffic citations for speeding and improper lane use, according to the report.

Following a brief suspension of his driving privileges, Petrakis’ ability to drive was restored this week after he consented to have a Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device installed on his vehicle.

Petrakis was arraigned Dec. 19 and is due back in court for a pretrial hearing Jan. 27.
