The Pottstown 14U Sting Swarm USSSA won the 2014 16U End of Summer Blowout in Bath last weekend.

The Sting Swarm scored 59 runs, while only allowing 11 over the two-day tournament.

On Sunday, during bracket play, the Sting Swarm defeated Pocono Pride, 14-2, in the quarterfinals, Lehigh Valley Patriot Flames, 15-1 in the semifinals, and Lehigh Valley Heat, 9-1, in the championship game. The Sting Swarm highlights included strong pitching, fielding and hitting throughout the tournament. One notable performance was Sting pitcher Taylor Lindsay’s dominating pitching in the semifinal and championship games.

Sting Swarm 14U Roster: Meghan Dempsey, Paige DiLullo, Taylor Hamm, Julia Heine, Brianna Kelly. Taylor Lindsay, Morgan Lindsay, Kira Livezey, Faith Pitsikoulis, Alyssa Sullivan, Erica Triantafilou and Alex Vullings. Coaches: John Livezey (head coach), Brian Hamm, Mike Lindsay and Brent Vullings.

PA StrikersThe PA Strikers 10U fastpitch softball team, recently crowned 2014 10U PA PONY State Championship in Philadelphia, went on to go undefeated at 8-0 in Sterling, VA, to also capture the 2014 PONY 10U National tournament.

The Strikers relied on team effort, strong defense, excellent pitching and their big bats to beat the Vienna Stars (VA), Xtreme Fastpitch (PA), NJ Pride (NJ), Orange Crush (DE), VA Crushers (VA), Ashburn Shooting Stars (VA) and the Banshees (PA), who they also played in the championship game and won by a score of 3-0.

The young Strikers played over 80 games since forming in August 2013 and ended their competitive season with a 65-15-1 record.

Lower PerkiomenThe Lower Perkiomen 11U softball team closed out its season, placing fourth in the Little League 10-11-year-old Softball Pennsylvania State Tournament in Berwick. It was the LPLL team’s highest ever finish.

Lower Perkiomen blanked Berwick, 16-0, lost to West Point, 9-0, beat East Lycoming, 7-1, then lost to Nittany Valley, 3-0.

Players: Payton Boychuck, Emma Tansky, Ruby Ramsey, Alyssa Lingo, Grace Ramsey, Ella Brant, Anna Hallissey, Katelyn Sausser, Brooke Bruno, Ashley Elvidge and Kinsey Moses. Coaches: Jack Hallissey, Jason Boychuck, Cheryl Tansky and Todd Moses.

BASEBALLThe Upper Providence 11U All-Star team, based in Oaks, came out on top of the 10-day John Klein Memorial 11-12-year-old All-Star Invitational District 27 tournament.

Upper Providence won the championship game, 16-9, against Radnor-Wayne at the Chester Valley Little league field in Malvern. Upper Providence overcame an early 7-0 deficit for the championship game win. Upper Providence also beat Lower Perkiomen, 10-6, on Thursday in Pottstown.

Players: Andrew Barr, Justin Calvarese, Travis Calvarese, Nick Cagliola, Joey Chillano, John-Michael DiLullo, CJ Ditterline, Ian Haines, Ethan Hennessey, Jake Tarr and Quinn Walters. Coaches: Pete Walters (manager), Joe Chillano and Carl Tarr.

TRACK AND FIELDJason Wagner, who will be entering eighth grade at Perkiomen Valley Middle School East in the fall, was crowned the AAU 2014 14-year old Boys Track and Field Mid-Atlantic Champion in javelin and discus.

At the Mid-Atlantics at Richard Stockton College in Galloway, N,J., Wagner won the javelin with a 102-0, and the discus with a 97-6 1/2, qualifying for the AAU Club Nationals.

At the AAU Club National Track and Field Meet at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., July 7-13, Wagner placed fourth in javelin with a personal best of 117-2 feet, and eighth in discus with another personal best throw of 105-4 feet.

Wagner also threw shot put at the national meet, posting a 32-2.3 to finish 13th.

Wagner competes throughout the spring and summer for the J-Dawg Field team in Collegeville.
