Kylor Kelley, Oregon State basketball

Oregon State junior Kylor Kelley is third in the national in blocked shots, and is within reach of tying a school record.

Oregon State dropped its second consecutive game, as Texas A&M wore down the Beavers during the second half to claim a 67-64 victory Saturday night in Moda Center.

The Beavers (6-3) shot made only 21 of 60 shots and had a season-high 19 turnovers in the loss.

Here is a quick recap:

Top performances: Texas A&M (4-4) guard T.J. Starks hit 8 of 17 shots and led the Aggies with 17 points and eight assists.

Oregon State’s top scorer was Ethan Thompson, who hit three 3-pointers and had 20 points.

Tres Tinkle, who leads OSU in scoring, rebounding and assists this season, had 17 points and six rebounds, but was just 1 of 8 from 3-point range.

The Aggies’ Wendell Mitchell only scored nine points, but hit three 3-pointers, a couple during crucial situations.

Key stretches: Texas A&M came into the game ranked No. 349 of 351 in 3-point field goal percentage (25.0), and looked the part early in the game. But the Aggies suddenly got hot, hitting four consecutive shots from behind the arc to take a 22-16 lead.

Oregon State, searching for anything positive on offense during the first half, leaned on Tinkle during the final minutes, as he scored six of OSU’s final nine points before halftime.

Texas A&M took control midway through the second half with a 7-0 run to take a 55-50 lead, the Aggies’ largest lead of the game to that point.

After Oregon State took a 57-56 lead, the Aggies spurted again, running off nine consecutive points to grab a 65-57 lead with 3:30 left.

Key stats: Texas A&M, mentioned earlier as a poor 3-point shooting team, hit 7 of 16 from behind the arc. Oregon State, meanwhile, was 8 of 27 from 3-point range.

Kylor Kelley tied an Oregon State record when he recorded his ninth consecutive game with multiple blocked shots. Kelley shares the record with Scott Haskin.

It was over when: Stephen Thompson’s mid-court heave missed at the buzzer, allowing Texas A&M to escape with a three-point win.

Next up: Pepperdine, 7 p.m. Monday, Gill Coliseum.
