Oh sweet confections, cakes are coming to Long Beach.

Brentwood-based SusieCakes bakery will open its first Long Beach location at the Long Beach Exchange in November, mall officials announced this week.

“We currently operate 18 locations throughout California, and Long Beach was a natural next step for us,” Susan Sarich, founder and CEO, said in a statement. “We are excited to join Long Beach Exchange and bring something new and unique to the area.”

The bakery is known for items such as layer cakes, cupcakes, pies and cookies, with signature items that include the Vanilla Celebration, a six-layer cake covered in blue vanilla frosting, a six-layer chocolate cake and Susie’s Famous Southern Red Velvet cake.

They make wedding cakes, too, and creative locals can also order custom made cakes.

The 266,000-square-foot Long Beach Exchange, also referred to as LBX, is a retail development at Douglas Park that spans more than 26 acres and includes three airport-themed zones, including the 16,800-square foot Hangar space located at the former Boeing Co. land at 3991 N. Lakewood Blvd.

The Hangar will include more than a dozen restaurants set to begin opening in September, including The Kroft, a gastropub that serves craft beers, Bottlecraft, a San Diego-based beer shop and bar and Amorcito, a Latin food spot by chef Thomas Ortega.

SusieCakes will not be located at the Hangar, but instead near the Whole Foods Market 365. The complex announced that Lululemon Athletica, a yoga-inspired athletic apparel retailer, is also going into that area.
