South girls overwhelm Spring Mills

South Hagerstown 6, Spring Mills 1

Sami Harrast scored two goals and had an assist to lead South Hagerstown to a win over Spring Mills on Wednesday.

Charli Wingfield, Ashley Frey and Jenna Phillips each scored a goal and had an assist for the Rebels.

Amy Kessler added a goal, and Trey Comacho and Mackenzie Giffen each had an assist for South.

Berlin 2, Southern Fulton 1

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. — Berlin scored twice in the first half and held on to beat Southern Fulton on Wednesday.

Kylie Golden scored the lone goal for the Indians off an assist by Lydia Hiller and goalie Bailey Burkett made 17 saves.

Hancock wins a pair

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Hancock earned a pair of victories on Wednesday, beating Paw Paw in straight sets and Berkeley Springs in three sets.

Against Paw Paw, Rachel Faith had 10 kills, Sunni Schriver had nine kills and Laura Golden had 11 assists and two aces.

In the victory over Berkeley Springs, Sarah Kerns had eight kills and 13 digs, Kallee Seal had 14 assists and three aces, Cloe Stotler had 13 digs and Cora Keefer had three aces.

St. Maria Goretti 3, Jefferson 2

Abigail Michael had 10 kills, 15 digs and eight aces for St. Maria Goretti in a 27-29, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18, 15-13 over Jefferson on Wednesday.

Peyton Kirchner had 16 kills, seven digs and five blocks for the Gaels, while Kyriah Stubbs had 10 kills and 14 digs, Zoie King had 33 assists, five kills, 12 digs and three aces and Jaya Smith had 11 digs and three aces.

Kercheval, Kalons lead Smithsburg

STEVENSVILLE, Md. — Garrett Kercheval clocked a time of 17:01 to win the Kent Island Invitational to lead the Smithsburg boys to a second-place finish on Wednesday.

John Kalons was second to Kercheval in 17:26, while Bryson Brawner (sixth 18:21) and Eli Knodle (ninth, 18:47) each had a top-10 finish for the Leopards.

The Smithsburg girls took fourth led by top-15 performances from Jillian Jerwick (22:45) and Lenna Cross (12th, 23:43).

Clear Spring finished sixth in the girls and seventh in the boys. Kent Island swept the team titles.

Williamsport boys win Run in the Valley

MIDDLETOWN, Md. — Williamsport placed three runners in the top five, including a first-place finish by Iggy Chalker, to win the Run in the Valley at Middletown Park on Tuesday.

Chalker covered the 3.1-mile course in 17:55.7 to win the race, while AJ Miller was third (18:46.27) and Carlos Ramirez was fifth (18:59.81). Aaryan Shah (ninth, 19:59.69) and Nate Heil (21st, 21:20.74) rounded out the scoring for Williamsport, which had 38 points.

St. Maria Goretti finished fourth led by a fourth-place finish by Ryan Rasco (18:55.66).

In the girls race, Goretti’s Annie Didden was the top county finisher in sixth 24:03.69.

• MEN’S GOLF

Shepherd take fifth in MEC

DANIELS, W.Va. — The Shepherd men’s golf team combined to shoot a three-round total of 928 to place fifth at the Mountain East Championships at Cobb Course at Glade Springs on Wednesday.

Senior Drew Call had a total score of 228 to finish eighth to lead the Rams, while junior Owen Elliot was tied for ninth with a 229. Also scoring for Shepherd were Mike Graessle (22nd, 238) and Mason Kidwell (T-23rd, 239).

Charleston fired a score of 906 to win the team title, led by medalist Eion Cunnlife’s 215.

• WOMEN’S SOCCER

Shepherd 2, Wheeling Jesuit 2

WHEELING, W.Va. — Shepherd goalie Meghan Byers, of Clear Spring, made eight saves as the Rams tied Wheeling Jesuit in MEC play on Wednesday.

Madison Michael and Emma Bernadoni both scored for Shepherd (4-6-2, 3-3-2).

Williamsport Angels’ 13U Tryout

The Williamsport Angels will be holding private tryouts for their spring 2019 13U Baseball team throughout the month of October.

The team is open to players 13 or younger born on or after May 1, 2005.

The Angels play a highly competitive tournament schedule in the Tri-State area, while placing an emphasis on continuing to build the fundamentals needed to develop their players into top prospects in the future.
