Coney Island Attacks: Police Searching For Three Men Who Attack, Rob Elderly Victims

Three men attacked and robbed five elderly individuals, including a 78-year-old man and an 82-year-old woman, over the course of six weeks.

CONEY ISLAND, BROOKLYN — Police are searching for three young men who officials say attacked and robbed five elderly individuals within a few blocks of each other in Coney Island over the last six weeks.

The attacks started at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, when the suspects approached a 68 year-old male outside an apartment building on West 33 Street, police said. The young men punched the man until he lost consciousness, then stole $120 in cash from the his wallet and fled, police said.

The young men attacked their next victim inside an apartment building on West 30 Street around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, police told Patch. The suspects attempted to strike a 78-year-old man inside the hallway of the apartment building, then stole $160 in cash, a metrocard, a bank card and other miscellaneous items, police said.

The men then attacked an 82-year-old woman in the vicinity of Mermaid Avenue and West 35 Street at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, police said. The men pushed the victim from behind and stole her pocketbook, which contained $350 in cash, police told Patch.

About a half-hour later on Dec. 29, the men attacked a 62-year-old woman, police said. At around 12:05 p.m., the men kicked the woman in the back, causing her to fall and hit her head, outside of an apartment building on West 33 Street, police said. The group didn't steal anything from this victim, police said.

Lastly, at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, the suspects robbed a 61-year-old female victim, police said. The young men approached the victim as she was about to enter an apartment building on West 33 Street. The suspects removed her purse from her shoulder, which had an LG cellphone and $6 in cash, police said.
