ALABASTER, Ala. — The Bimingham News said that a Murray woman died in a multiple-vehicle crash on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The paper reported that Janet Manning, 72, died, along with two other travelers, when four vehicles collided on Interstate 65 near Alabaster, Alabama. The paper said that the other people who died were from Georgia.Â
Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans told the paper that all of the victims died as the result of thermal burns. Trooper with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency told The News that the crash occurred in the northbound lanes of I-65.Â
Two other people were injured in the crash and taken to nearby hospitals.Â
WVTM-TV in Birmingham reported that a witness, who said she was about four vehicles behind the crash, saw a car swerve and an SUV landed on top of it and the wall that separates the north and southbound lanes of the interstate. The TV station also reported that the witness said an RV was involved. She said an explosion then occurred, causing a massive fire that that swept across the northbound lanes of the interstate.
