Calling all seniors: The Douglas County Triad will host its 12th annual Senior Expo Thursday, June 27. The free event is at St. Mary's Education Center, 420 Irving St., from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This year's keynote speaker is Tim Eggebraaten, a retired Detroit Lakes police chief. He is known for speaking and performing as "The Off Duty Chief."

Lunch will be provided for free during the event and there will be plenty of giveaways and prizes.

Seniors can attend breakout sessions and while most are about serious topics - dementia, medicare home health benefits, advance care directives, home safety and stroke awareness - there are a couple lighter options, such as days trips that are available and fun activities at the Douglas County Library.

"I'm very excited about this," said Joyce McIntosh, Douglas County Senior Services senior coordinator. "The seniors on our planning committee have very specific topics they wanted to learn more about. The sessions will have information for those looking to stay safe and healthy while living in their homes."

For those planning on attending, organizers ask that you register in advance by calling either Joyce at 320-762-3047 or Kathy at 320-762-2320.

The Douglas County Triad includes area senior citizens, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the Alexandria Police Department and McIntosh. The group works to reduce crime against the elderly, reduce fear of crime and to encourage senior citizens to be the eyes and ears of law enforcement around the community.
