Wildcats Competed Against Top NCAA II Teams at Conference Crossover
Northern Michigan University Women's Cross Country placed 20th in field loaded with ranked teams at the Conference Crossover six-kilometer race hosted by Lewis University.
MCDONALD UP FRONT
For the second-consecutive week, senior Sophie McDonald (Park City, Utah) was the top finisher for the Wildcats after being the 30th racer to cross the finish line. She topped last weeks' time by exactly two seconds, finishing in 22 minutes, 54.50 seconds. Overall, McDonald was the fifth-fastest Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference runner in the field.
UPPERCLASSMAN LEAD THE WAY
Fellow senior Abby Fifarek (Buckley, Michigan) was the second fastest Wildcat finisher with a time of 23:24.10. The time was good enough for a 63rd-place finish.
Junior Hanna Torvi (St. Paul, Minnesota) has improved her six-kilometer time in each of the last three meets. She improved last week's performance by more than 15 seconds with a time of 23:33.20, good enough for 86th-place.
Two more Wildcats finished in 151st and 154th, respectively. Senior Shayla Manitowabi-Huebner (Marquette, Michigan) finished with a time of 25:08.50, while sophomore Elise Longley (Bloomington, Minnesota) was not far behind with a time of 25:21.20.
CONSISTENT FRESHMAN
Freshman Anna Kelley (Minneapolis, Minnesota) finished in the top-seven for the Wildcats for the fourth-consecutive meet to begin her collegiate career. Kelley was the sixth-fastest NMU runner, crossing the finish line in 25:42.70. Fellow freshman Katrina Salmen (Peshtigo, Wisconsin) rounded out the top seven, placing 165th with a time of 25:46.10.

The Wildcats will now get a break before hosting the Upper Peninsula Championships on October 19. The event will take place at the NMU Golf Course beginning at 3 p.m.
