Albert E. Nicolet

Funeral services for Albert E. “Skeet” Nicolet, 88, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Swaim Funeral Chapel in Cimarron. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post 1714 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Nicolet died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at Fort Dodge.
He was born Oct. 25, 1923, at Cimarron, the son of Albert Louis and Wanda Garten Nicolet. He grew up in Cimarron and graduated from Cimarron High School.
He attended Kansas University, where he was on the freshman basketball team with Phog Allen as coach. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army 71st Infantry during World War II, serving in the European Theater.
Mr. Nicolet owned and operated Nicolet’s Clothing Store in Cimarron and in the Gibsons Mall in Dodge City for many years. He served on the Cimarron School Board and Cimarron City Council. He was an avid golfer and, along with Louie Magouirk, started the Cimarron Golf Course.
He was a member of the Cimarron United Methodist Church, Dodge City County Club and the Roberts Rohrbaugh Post 7828 of the V.F.W. in Cimarron.
He married Virginia Larsen on Feb. 16, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives, of Cimarron.
Other survivors include three sons, Greg and wife Shirley, of Cimarron, Marc and wife Diane, of Reno, Nev., and Scott and wife Sandra, of Dodge City; a daughter, Suzanne Nicolet, of Lawrence; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
