Big Ups going on "indefinite hiatus" after January tour

Brooklyn band Big Ups have decided to call it quits. They announced the news this morning on Facebook:

Like so many bands before us, the time has come for Big Ups to take an indefinite hiatus. We have decided to not continue with the band while we take time to pursue other things. Since 2010, the four of us have dedicated ourselves to this project in a way that often neglects other aspects and dimensions of ourselves and our lives. It’s time for us to branch out and grow. We’ve had a really great run, a really great time, and we’ve accomplished all that we’ve wanted to and more.

As a band – we sure were lucky. We were lucky to meet a lot of people who believed in us and were willing to support us without any real reason to do so. We were lucky to have so many opportunities that other bands don’t necessarily have. In a world where music is becoming increasingly dispensable, we were lucky to have anyone care about us at all for any amount of time. We want to thank everyone that helped make this thing what it was, no matter the size of the contribution. It might be a bit clichéd, but we really couldn’t have done it without you.

Big Ups will say goodbye with a short East Coast tour, hitting Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Hamden, CT, Boston, and finishing with a final show at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom on January 18 with Guerilla Toss, Washer, and Bethlehem Steel also on the bill. Tickets for the Bowery show go on sale Friday, November 9 at noon with a Citi cardmember presale beginning Tuesday (11/6) at 10 AM.

The band also say, “We may release some more recordings, we may not- we’re not really sure how this whole thing is going to pan out, honestly. You can expect that some of us will be involved in other musical projects in the future.” All dates are listed, along with a stream of this year’s Two Parts Together, below.
