Georgia man accused in financial theft of the City of Denison

A man was arrested in Georgia for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from the City of Denison in August.

Denison Police Detective Kyle Mackay responded to a report of theft from the city in August 2018.

Officials say 37-year-old Bobby Demario Riden of Atlanta, GA had falsely identified himself as a representative of a contractor, providing financial information so payments totaling $76,000 would be deposited into bogus accounts.

A warrant was obtained by the Grayson County district Attorney's Office for theft greater than $30,000. The charge is a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine up to $10,000.

Riden was arrested on the charge and is being held in the Monroe County Jail in Georgia awaiting extradition to Grayson county.

City Manager Judson Rex says no personal information was compromised, and the city is pursuing all avenues to recover the stolen funds.

"Detective Mackay did an outstanding job on this investigation and is to be commended for his dedication to solving this theft, identifying the suspect and coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to ensure the perpetrator was arrested," said Rex.
