The Oregonian/OregonLive’s recipe database brims with Thanksgiving recipes

This holiday season, experienced and beginner cooks can find recipes in our Recipe Box database. Each and every recipe in our database comes from the pages of The Oregonian/OregonLive, which means it has passed a rigorous series of checks for quality. We test recipes in the kitchen to make sure they work. We wrangle with problems of scale (How do you convert a restaurant recipe for 60 into dinner for a family of six?). We ensure the instructions are tightly and clearly written so that busy home cooks don’t have to wade through a tangle of words. And we get detailed nutritional analysis for each recipe.

Choosing which recipes make the final cut is Grant Butler. Grant has written about Oregon’s food scene since 1987, first as a restaurant critic and later as a food writer, columnist and recipe creator for The Oregonian’s Foodday section. “There are all kinds of variables that cause recipes not to work,” Grant says, “but the most common one is human error: people writing the recipe down wrong, dropping ingredients.”
