David Scott Carmichael entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, with his loving wife of 27 years, Deborah, by his side.

David was born Nov. 5, 1953, in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, the son of Curtis and Bernice Carmichael.

He attended Grosse Pointe South, graduated from the University of Miami (Class of 1976) and completed his senior year in banking in Johannesburg, South Africa. 

He joined his father in the family business, Copper and Brass Sales, for the next 12 years. David was a member of the Country Club of Detroit, The Detroit Racquet Club and the Grosse Pointe Club.

In 1988, he moved to Tryon to establish two H&R Block franchises in Landrum, South Carolina, and Columbus, North Carolina. He won an award for the top 100 H&R Block franchises.

David was an active member of Tryon Hounds, where he was treasurer for 16 years; and the Tryon Riding and Hunt Club, where he served on the board and was a yearly volunteer at the Steeplechase; and Green Creek Hounds, as a riding and social member. He also was a previous member of the Kiwanis Club and the Investment Club.

David will always be remembered as a kind, caring person who was always a gentleman. He was much loved by his employees, his clients, his friends in Michigan who he knew since early childhood and remained loyal friends to this day, and his many friends in the Polk County area who will dearly miss him. David loved life, his family and friends, and his rescue dogs, especially Cubbie and Miley.

David was predeceased by his parents and brother, Curtis Jr. He is survived by his wife, Deborah ODonnell Carmichael; his siblings, Lucille Milner, Terrence Carmichael (Birgit), Denise Carmichael, Constance Parnell (John); and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the hospice nurses and CNA’s, plus his two very special caregivers, Destiny and Angela, who were very compassionate and caring.

There will be a service at Petty Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1 p.m. March 3, and a gathering of friends and family from 2 to 5 p.m. at FENCE.
