  • Manchester United players helped raise money for charity at a golf day
  • Robin van Persie impressed his team-mates with an impressive drive
  • The event began in 2010 and has raised over £100,000 since its inception
  • The golf day was organised by the Manchester United Foundation

Manchester United's players took some time out from football to hone their golf skills in aid of charity, and Robin van Persie proved he is a dab hand on the green with a thumping drive.

Phil Jones posted a picture from the golf course to his Instagram account alongside fellow defender Paddy McNair and noted the pair were partners for the day.

And Van Persie impressed his team-mates by hitting an impressive drive as he teed off, turning round and shouting 'hole-in-one!' Although it is not clear whether he achieved the feat.

Last year, supporters were able to enter the event, which began in 2010, by paying £1500 per team of three, with a player, legend or celebrity making up the fourth member of each team.

The golf day was organised by the Manchester United Foundation, which works with disadvantaged young people across the city.

Last year's event raised over £20,000 for the foundation, and it has raised more than £100,000 in total since 2010.

Wayne Rooney is a two-time champion - winning in 2011 and 2012 - while Michael Carrick took the crown in 2013 with Ryan Giggs coming out on top last year.
