Firefighters were called to Pier 38 Thursday after a boat caught fire.

The alarm came in at 1:53 p.m. behind the restaurant Nico’s Pier 38.

Crews arrived to find an 80-foot fishing boat moored to Pier 38 with smoke and flames emanating from the forward half of the vessel.

With the assistance of the U.S. Coast Guard, the fire was brought under control at 3:47 p.m. and extinguished by 4:05 p.m.

Officials say five men were on the long-line fishing boat at the time of the fire, and all were able escape unhurt.

The fishing boat suffered significant interior damage, but officials say it is not taking on water. It remains secured to the pier and afloat with no reports of any fuel spills or leaks.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
