Two years after making its D.C. debut, Ohio-born Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is ready to plant its first location in Maryland.

The 1,130-square-foot sweets shop will open along Bethesda Row’s Elm Street this fall, bringing its lineup of offbeat flavor combos like salty caramel, sorbet frosé, and churros to the dining hub.

James Beard Award-winning cookbook author Jeni Britton Bauer debuted the innovative ice cream brand in a single stall in Columbus, Ohio’s public market in 2002, and 34 coast-to-coast outposts have since followed. The only other D.C. area location sits along the bustling 14th Street NW corridor (1925 14th Street NW), complete with colorful wallpaper and two stories.

The award-winning artisanal ice cream company has also served select scoops at The Wharf’s massive music hall The Anthem.

Hit flavors like Brambleberry Crisp, Brown Butter Almond Brittle, and Gooey Butter Cake will be joined by a new lineup of dairy-free flavors.

Bethesda Row guests can currently get a sugar fix at Dolcezza Gelato and Coffee. Local wood-fired pizza chain Matchbox plans to join the corridor this summer.
