COLLINSVILLE, Va. (WSET) -- After being hit hard by two floods over the weekend, members of Fair Haven Fellowship banded together to clean it up.

"Heart-wrenching. It's been rough," Maxine Mays said.

That is how longtime church member Maxine Mays felt after seeing her church get hit not once, but twice.

"It was just terrible. It looked like the devil had got mad at us and went in and just tossed everything in every which way," Maxine said.

The Collinsville church was first hit by flood water on Friday night.

After church members gathered to clean it up Saturday, it happened again that night.

"It's like 'good day'. I mean two times in a row in a couple days. It's been pretty rough. We haven't even really had time to really get it all out," said Steven Mays, who is also a longtime churchgoer there.

They were forced to clear out everything from inside like the pews, a piano, a refrigerator and more.

The pastor, Randy Sawyers, was stunned by the damage.

"This is pretty overwhelming. When you come in and it's really pretty much washed out, wiped out, but again there's nothing there that can't be replaced," Sawyers sad

Adversity struck twice, but this church decided to ban together, which really was a blessing for the pastor.

"When the things are really not looking the best and looking bleak, they grow strong in themselves and they rise up they pulled together. I'll tell you what you couldn't ask for a better handful of folks to come together," Sawyers said.

He said he is not sure if he will be able to salvage the church, but he is ready for anything.

"Wherever the lord opens the door up, that's where we'll plan on going," Sawyers said.

Sawyers meets with the insurance adjuster on Monday to discuss the church's future.
