PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 34-year-old man was arrested after a rollover crash on Friday killed a 6-year-old and injured three others.

Shane Richard Bremer was arrested and lodged at the Clackamas County Jail on charges of reckless driving, reckless endangering, assault, DUII and manslaughter. He’s being held on $1 million bail.

In court on Monday, the prosecutor said Bremer had been doing shots of Fireball on the river before getting behind the wheel of the Chevrolet Tahoe.

The SUV crashed around 5:20 p.m on S. Molalla Forest Road, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.

There was no cell signal, so a motorist was flagged down and brought all the victims to a residence in the 34000 block of S. Dickey Prairie Road in Molalla — 15 miles from the crash scene.

It’s unclear how long the victims had been at the home before help arrived, but the boy, Derick Bedwell, was pronounced dead once medical personnel got there. Two other children, Derick’s twin brother and 10-year-old sister, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The children’s mother — 29-year-old Jennifer Sanders — was taken to the hospital by LifeFlight with critical injuries.

It appears most of the passengers in the Tahoe were not wearing seat belts, authorities said.

Bremer accompanied the two children to the hospital where he was also treated for minor injuries. He’s not the father of the three children.

Derick’s aunt, Jena Miller, started a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs. She described Derick as a “bright and funny boy who brought so much joy into our lives.”
