Cops: 4 charged in string of Onondaga County burglaries thanks to contractor

VAN BUREN, N.Y. -- Four people were charged in connection to a string of burglaries in Onondaga County after a contractor interrupted a burglary and captured the getaway vehicle's license plate number.

Over the past few weeks detectives have been investigating burglaries of newly built homes, said Sgt. Jon Seeber, a spokesman for the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office.

The thieves had been stealing new appliances, tools and electronics.

On Oct. 20 a contractor working at a home off San Marino Path in Van Buren interrupted two burglary suspects, Seeber said. They got away, but the contractor took down the license plate number of the vehicle as they sped off.

From left to right, Steven Smith, Alizabeth Keen, Charles Addison and Sharon Harrison.

Eventually detectives found the two suspects -- identified as Steven Smith and Alizabeth Keen -- hiding in Syracuse, Seeber said.

Smith, 32, of Broadwell Avenue, Johnson City, Keen, 25, of Hazelwood Avenue, Syracuse, were each charged with second-degree burglary and petit larceny.

Detectives also developed information that led them to a home on Shonnard Street in Syracuse. There they found numerous appliances that had been reported stolen from homes across Onondaga County, Seeber said. The occupants of the home -- identified as Charles Addison and Sharon Harrison -- were arrested.

Addison, 54, and Harrison, 33, both of Shonnard Street, were charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Addison, Harrison and Smith were later charged with second-degree burglary and petit larceny. Seeber said they burglarized a house in Clay on Sept. 13.

Keen was arraigned in Lysander Town Court and released.

Addison and Harrison were arraigned in Salina Town Court and were each ordered held at the Onondaga County jail in lieu of $5,000 bail or bail bond. Smith was arraigned in Lysander Town Court on Oct. 21 and held on $10,000 bail or $20,000 bail bond. He was also arraigned in Salina Town Court and held on $20,000 bail or $40,000 bail bond.

Addison, Harrison and Smith remain in jail and are scheduled to appear Friday morning in Syracuse City Criminal Court on the possession of stolen property charge.

Seeber said detectives are continuing to investigate and are working with state police as well as police in Manlius, Camillus, Baldwinsville and Cicero who have similar cases.
