Flood watch issued for Friday and Saturday in Oklahoma

A flood watch for parts of the state, including central Oklahoma, has been issued for Friday through Saturday morning as heavy rain is possible, the National Weather Service reported.

Thursday will be warm and windy with a high temperature near 90 degrees in central Oklahoma.

Heavy rain and cooler temperatures will move into the state after 1 a.m. Friday. More than 7 inches of rain could fall in some parts of the state, Rick Smith, a meteorologist in Norman reported.

The flood watch will be from 7 a.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday for southwest, northwest, central and southern parts of the state, the weather service reported.

The watch covers the following 38 Oklahoma counties:

Atoka, Beckham, Blaine, Bryan, Canadian, Caddo, Carter, Cleveland, Coal, Comanche, Cotton, Custer, Dewey, Garvin, Grady, Greer, Harmon, Hughes, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnston, Kingfisher, Kiowa, Lincoln, Logan, Love, Marshall, McClain, Murray, Oklahoma, Payne, Pottawatomie, Pontotoc, Seminole, Stephens, Tillman, Roger Mills and Washita.

The Oklahoma City forecast follows:

Thursday: Sunny with a high near 90. South wind 8 to 16 mph with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Thursday night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Partly cloudy with a low around 71. South wind 8 to 14 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 76. South, southeast wind 6 to 13 mph becoming north, northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible.

Friday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 59. North, northeast wind 14 to 16 mph with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy with a high near 69. North, northeast wind 11 to 14 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Saturday night: A 30 percent chance of showers mainly before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy with a high near 74.
