Stormzy has announced another UK festival headline slot, to take place eight days before his much-discussed headline set on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage.
The grime outlier has just been announced as one of four headliners for Belfast’s Belsonic Festival, which runs from June 20-23. Stormzy’s set takes place on the opening night.
According to Belfast Live, promoters for the festival said: “Eighteen months since the release of his debut album, Stormzy can look back on a period in which his career and his life have been transformed.
“He was already soaring before ‘Gang Signs and Prayer’ hit the airwaves and the streaming services, but the stellar success of that LP – as its name suggests, a vivid and thrilling journey through soul, gospel and grime – elevated him to an entirely new level of fame.”
“The boy from Croydon, born to Ghanaian parents, is now a chart-topping artist with awards galore: one Ivor Novello, two Brits, and six MOBO Awards.”
The other headliners of the festival, which takes place in Ormeau Park, are Ben Nicky, George Ezra, and Hozier.

The two sets are the early signs of what’s due to be a massive 2019 for Stormzy. His second studio album is strongly rumoured to be released next year.
His announcement as Glastonbury’s first headliner of 2019 led to a mixed reaction. Some praised what they saw as a brave and forward-thinking booking, whilst others were less than pleased with the booking.
Elsewhere, Stormzy is partnering with Adidas Originals for a new apparel collection named ‘Adidas Originals SPRT‘, which is available from Friday (November 30).
