MILTON, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) A local trucking company is under investigation by Massachuesetts State Police.
A girl was injured after a piece of snow and ice flew off a tractor trailer and through the windsheild of a car striking the young victim.
“It went right through my passenger side,” said Amanda Grenier of Massachusetts who told a NBC10 Boston reporter.
Thursday, a large plank of snow and ice flew off a semi, crashing into her Toyota Yaris. Hitting her 6-year-old daughter. State Police in the Bay State say a 34-year-old man from Williamsport, PA was drivig the rig.
The man was hauling goods for Watsontown trucking company in Milton.
“We were going valentine shopping and we’re driving on the highway and 18 wheeler there was a big snow, ice, that came off his truck. I tried to swerve,” said Grenier.
We reached out to the trucking company and the Director of Safety, Chad Mensch says “at Watsontown Trucking Company we take snow and ice removal from our equipment very seriously. We are currently investigating the incident that occurred on February 14th in Massachusetts.”
Kimberly Smith, a PennDot District 3 Safety Press Officer says in Pennsylvania, failure to comply could lead to liability and a fine. Massachusetts State Police cited the Williamsport Driver. They issued a $200 fine for carrying an unsecured load.
“For the motorist, keep their distance, allow that larger following space because it give you time to react. When things that come off vehicles like that,” said Smith.
