The Eastern Cape town of Grahamstown will soon have to spend thousands of rands with the proposed name change that will take place.

The name change was announced in the Government Gazette and the town will now be called Makhanda as a tribute to the Xhosa philosopher, Prophet and fighter, Makhanda Nxele.

He allegedly fought against British colonial troops in a single battle and the name change will wipe out the “bitter and painful events” of the past.
