Bridgeport police said a man from Chapmanville faces charges after he fled from officers in a stolen vehicle and was arrested after a foot chase.

Lowell Edward Young, 29, was taken into custody after an incident Thursday, according to a news release from the Bridgeport Police Department.

Bridgeport police said they were notified that a vehicle had been stolen in the White Oaks area within two minutes of it being taken.

The vehicle was found near the intersection of Route 131 and Route 50 and police attempted to perform a traffic stop.

Police said the suspect vehicle began to flee the area westbound on Route 50 and continued onto Interstate 79 South at a high rate of speed.

Spike strips were put down at the 102-mile marker of the interstate, but police said the suspect was able to avoid them.

The vehicle continued south and near the 91-mile marker the suspect attempted to overtake a vehicle and crashed. Police said the suspect left the vehicle and fled on foot from the scene.

Bridgeport police and West Virginia state troopers caught the suspect and took him into custody.

Young has been charged with two felonies, grand larceny and fleeing with reckless indifference.
