(NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico) - Motorists beginning their day Tuesday in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, were greeted by a horrific site; two young people described as Internet bloggers who expressed their disapproval of cartel activities... were found hanging from a bridge, tortured and murdered, the woman left partly nude.

The location is in the heart of the Mexican community - Voluntad and Trabajo 3. Nuevo Laredo is a city of 400,000 just across the Rio Grande from Laredo, Texas.

Police did their best to re-route motorists around the grisly scene where the two lifeless bodies hung from a pedestrian bridge at Carretera al Aeropuerto and Los Mayas.

The area was secured by state and federal police and military forces, while investigators examined the scene.

The body of a man who is reportedly approximately 25 years of age, was hung from his hands, while the body of a woman estimated to be about 28 years of age, hung by her hands and feet.

Police say both had visible signs of being savagely tortured prior to being killed. The young man was wearing white polo shirt with blue stripes, red shorts while the woman was half nude wearing white pants with yellow squares.

CNN explains that the man and a woman in their 20s were tortured and hanged from a pedestrian bridge along the Mexican border for denouncing a drug cartel on Internet forums and blogs.

The Washington Post writes that the slayings and the display of the threats against social media users represent another dangerous escalation in Mexico's drug wars.

"This is against everyone who posts information about organized crime," said Omar Rabago of the group Article 19 in Mexico, which advocates for freedom of expression. "The criminals want to shut this down. They don't want anybody to know anything."

Note reportedly left at crime scene

As the group Borderland Beat explains, the murderers who left this terrifying scenario also placed two placards next to the bodies in where they accused the victims of using social networks to comment on the various internet forums that are currently dedicated to publishing narco news in this city. One of the 'drug notes' was reportedly tied to the leg of the male victim.

“This happened for snitching on Frontera Al Rojo Vivo,” read that note. Frontera Al Rojo Vivo is a popular online forum where members anonymously post details on drug cartels and denounce them.

The second message, attached to the bridge, read: “This will happen to all the internet snitches (Frontera al Rojo Vivo, Blog Del Narco, or Denuncia Ciudadano). You better f***ing pay attention. I’ve got my eye on you.” The two blogs also post anonymous information about the cartels. (Warning: Blog Del Narco also contains grisly scenes of cartel victims.)

The second note was signed with a “Z”, which is likely a reference to Los Zetas cartel, which operates in the area. The cartel has murdered informants in the past, but this is the first known case where online message boards and blogs were mentioned.

None of the sites singled out appeared to have been intimidated by the grisly murders. “It’s very difficult for them to find out who denounced,” wrote one poster on Al Rojo Vivo. “They only want to scare society.”

As sad and horrific as the details in evidence are, it is clear that these acts are committed with knowledge of higher ups within the government and law enforcement. It is the standard procedure to denounce such outrages as they turn a blind eye at the required times. They are in essence getting paid from both sides as the nightmarish memories this images instill sell like gangbusters at budget time.
