Police at the scene of the burglary in Aughnacloy

Police investigating the attempted murder of an 83-year-old in Co Tyrone have eliminated a car suspected to be involved from their enquiries.

Pat Davidson was left for dead in the garden of her home at Sydney Street in Aughnacloy by four attackers on Tuesday, January 23.

She was found lying beneath an upstairs window by a local man who came across four men at the property.

Officers believe the victim may have fallen from the bedroom window while trying to escape as her house was ransacked.

Paramedics treated her at the scene shortly afterwards before rushing her to hospital.

A candlelit vigil was held for the victim.

Police are treating it as attempted murder and believe it may be linked to three other robberies that day in the border village, Ballygawley and Seskinore.

On Tuesday police renewed their appeal for information. They said a car they had initially appealed for information over has been eliminated from their investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell said: “The investigation is ongoing into this horrific incident and we are continuing to follow a number of lines of enquiry connected to the attempted murder and the three other burglaries in the Aughnacloy, Ballygawley and Seskinore areas, which we believed are linked.

“A silver Ford Focus car, with false registration 06 WX 6313 which we initially thought was connected to the burglary has now been eliminated from the investigation.
