Gomez is named for her song We Don't Talk Anymore with Charlie Puth. Swift was listed for her work with Zayn Malik for I Don't Wanna Live Forever.

And Perry was recognized for her work with Calvin Harris and Pharrell on Feels.

Also in the category are Khaled with Rihanna and Tiller for Wild Thoughs, DRAM and Lil Yachty for Broccoli and The Chainsmokers and Halsey for Closer.

Swift released Bad Blood in 2014 and it was assumed the song was about Perry.

Taylor told Rolling Stone: 'For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not. She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, "Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?"

Then Swift said Perry did something so 'horrible' she thought, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies.'

Taylor added: 'And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.'

Perry called Swift a Mean Girl on Twitter.

Then in 2015 Perry told The Telegraph: 'It’s not real if someone appears to never have any issues with anyone,” she said. “I have my friends. I have enemies. I have bad days when I don’t want to go to a photo shoot, but I’m not going to show up four hours late. I’m going to be there on-time. I’m not nice all the time, but I try not to be carelessly rude to people who don’t deserve it.'

Adding fuel to the fire, Katy then worked with Swift's ex Calvin on Feels.

In a global first, MTV announced the nominations on Instagram Live with an elite squad of Instagram stars.

To date, no previous tentpole awards show has utilized Instagram Live to announce their complete list of nominees.

Building on the critical acclaim of the non-gendered categories at the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards, the network also announced the former Best Female Video and Best Male Video categories have been combined for Artist of the Year.
