Patient Killed in NY Ambulance Crash

Two Mohawk Ambulance Service members were injured when the ambulance struck a tree in Duanesburg.

Two EMS personnel were injured in a crash that claimed the life of a patient they were transporting in Duanesburg Wednesday.

The Mohawk Ambulance Service unit crashed head-on into a tree on Western Turnpike around 5:30 p.m.

Passersby helped free the driver by breaking the glass on the driver's side door, WNYT reports.

They said an EMT in the rear of the ambulance was bleeding from the head and the male patient was ejected from the stretcher. 

"Currently the driver of the vehicle is at Ellis Hospital another one of the passengers is at Albany Medical Center and the patient that was in the ambulance is deceased," said Sheriff Dominick Dagostino.

The patient was being transported to his home.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
