The Fiesta Dinnerware Demonstration Kitchen was an exciting place on Jan. 11 at AmericasMart during the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market. The kitchen, located in Building 2, Floor 8, hosted celebrity chefs Bobby and Jamie Deen and Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian at two separate events that day, where food was made—and more importantly taste tested. Fiesta Dinnerware left gifts for each attendee for both demonstrations.

That morning, Bobby and Jamie Deen stood in for their mother, Paula Deen, who was unable to attend. They told stories of their childhoods, when their mother cooked for their neighbors, as well as stories of when Paula started a lunch delivery service out of her home, and then eventually opened a restaurant in Savannah, Ga., called The Lady & Sons, and earning the title “International Meal of the Year” by USA Today. Paula Deen has humble beginnings, and market attendees were excited to hear her sons speak and try their food.

Bobby and Jamie made several variations of corn bread, using their mother’s mix and adding ingredients such as bacon and sugarcane syrup, cheddar and jalapeno, and rosemary and olives.

That afternoon, Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian drew a crowd. Rather than a “stir and talk” format, Zakarian answered questions from the audience while an assistant demonstrated his recipe for beef and barley bisque.

The audience received an insider’s view of the food on Chopped, Iron Chef gossip (with intentional teasing at fellow Iron Chef Bobby Flay) and tips to keep food fresh. Along with facts from his book My Perfect Pantry, Zakarian explained the benefits to his Geoffrey Zakarian Pro home storage containers.

The beef and barley bisque was delicious, and all in attendance received a recipe card to recreate the meal at home.
