"Love and Hip Hop New York" star Tahiry Jose took to social networking site Instagram on Thursday to thank fans for their support after she was allegedly assaulted by a man.

The VH1 star was set to take part in a runway show in Manhattan on Monday as part of New York Fashion Week, but ended up in the hospital instead after she was attacked backstage.

It is unclear what exactly happened during the incident or who exactly was involved, however, Tahiry took the opportunity to raise awareness about violence against women, which has become a hot topic in the media lately due to the Ray Rice debacle.

"Thank you ALL for your well wishes," she wrote in an Instagram post. "As you may or may not know, on Monday, Sept. 8, I was attacked, assaulted and violated, while in the workplace, by a man. I was beaten because I am woman with a voice and refuse to be disrespected."

The reality TV star's assault incident took place in the wake of the backlash stemming from Rice's assault video. Earlier this year the disgraced NFL player was caught on video assaulting his wife and the footage was made public last week, which led to him being dropped by the Baltimore Ravens.

While Tahiry reportedly sustained injuries during the attack, she is now said to be recovering at home.

"It is more proof that the violence against women is real and needs to be addressed publicly. The shaming and disrespecting of women/victims of violent abuses must stop. Violence against women must stop; a women's voice and refusal to be disrespected is not grounds for physical abuse," she wrote before using the hashtags #iamwoman and #myvoicematters to illustrate her point.

Fans applauded the model for speaking openly about her ordeal in a bid to raise awareness about violence against women and many offered well wishes.

"Get better hun #GodBless," one fan wrote.

"Stay strong, and get well," another wrote.

"Stay strong Tahiry praying for you!" another wrote.
