REDLANDS >> Want to catch a “wave” of nostalgia this weekend?

On Saturday, the YMCA of the East Valley is bringing back its popular Surfin’ the Bowl presentation, which features classic sounds of California surf music from the likes of the Beach Boys to the Bel Airs.

“We’re excited to offer this concert to the community once again,” Perry Mecate, vice president of operations at the Y, said in a news release. “It’s very hard to imagine a better way to really kick off the season than with some classic summer music.”

The free show, which runs from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Redlands Bowl, 25 Grant St., looks to introduce new generations to tunes of the past and “enjoy a fun night as a community,” Mecate said.

It is also another way to introduce the Y and its programming to the area.

“Our hope is that we give our community an exciting night that will become a great memory for all that go,” said Darwin Barnett, CEO of the YMCA of the East Valley.

Saturday’s concert is made possible thanks to a donation from longtime YMCA supporter and board member D.L. Van Voorhis. Show acts include Surf Music All Stars, with current and former members of Dick Dale and the Deltones; the Surfaris; the Chantays; and the the Belairs. A pre-performance from the Great Y Circus starts at 6:45 p.m.

Guests will have a chance to win tickets for the Catalina Island ferry and YMCA-related giveaways.

The YMCA hosts events year-round in Redlands, Highland and San Bernardino.
