Cassius Marsh in concussion protocol, Jaquiski Tartt, K’Waun Williams sit out practice

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their first day of on-field practice for Week 15 vs. the Seattle Seahawks, and a few players of note are banged up. Cassius Marsh is in the concussion protocol, and Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder) and K’Waun Williams (knee) remain sidelined.

Marsh will go through the normal protocol, which means he will have to be asymptomatic at rest, then asymptomatic after a workout, and then get through a contact test. Thursday and/or Friday will give us a better idea of Marsh’s status. If he is listed as limited on Thursday, that means he likely will be good to go on Sunday. If he is a DNP on Thursday we have to wait Friday. And regardless of all that, concussion symptoms can pop up Saturday or Sunday, so we’ll see.

I imagine the 49ers are being extra cautious with Tartt and Williams knowing they have some other young players to check out at strong safety and nickel back. That’s not to say Marcell Harris and D.J. Reed are set to replace them, but with three weeks left, extra evaluation on the field is welcome.

The limited list added D.J. Jones. He is dealing with a back issue after starting in place of Earl Mitchell last Sunday. He was the team’s highest graded player at Pro Football Focus, and will look to build on that this weekend against a tough Seahawks run game.
