RuPaul’s Drag Race queen Detox caught up with Billboard Pride editor Patrick Crowley during RuPaul’s DragCon weekend to chat about her new EP, Lil’ Kim’s influence on her music and to weigh in on the current season of the RuPaul-hosted television show.
Speaking of her forthcoming EP, Detox — clad in judge attire and holding a gavel – says, “This whole experience is based off of one of my singles ‘#SueList’ where I’m basically suing anybody who pisses me off.” Asked who exactly is pissing her off, she replies, “Nobody yet today!”
Detox also discusses her love of Lil’ Kim, sharing that her sister was “obsessed” with the rapper when her 1996 debut album Hard Core was released. “I am such a huge fan of my sister that it was kind of what I grew up with,” Detox explains, “and I’ve met her several times. I got to perform for her, we’ve fallen in love and I’m dying — and I keep saying this — dying to collaborate together, Kim! Pick up your fucking phone!”
In the video, which you can watch in full above, the drag queen also weighs in on the current season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, revealing that she was rooting for the now-eliminated Mayhem Miller to win, “so now I’m just rooting for Michelle Visage.”
