High court notice to government over impure food in hostels

Rajasthan High Court has issued notices to the chief secretary, principal secretary of social Justice and empowerment department, managing director of Rajasthan Consumers Federation (CONFED) and director of medical and health services over substandard and unhygienic food being served at the hostels and residential schools.

JAIPUR: Rajasthan High Court has issued notices to the chief secretary, principal secretary of social Justice and empowerment department, managing director of Rajasthan Consumers Federation (CONFED) and director of medical and health services over substandard and unhygienic food being served at the hostels and residential schools.
The division bench of Justice K S Jhaveri and Mahendra Maheshwari issued notice on a petition by Bhagirat Singh.
The counsel for petitioner Satyendra Radhav said, social justice and empowerment department is running 709 hostels and 19 residential schools in the state.
The supply of specified branded commodities to the hostels has been entrusted to CONFED. It had invited tenders for supply of commodities in these hostels in June this year and one Mohan Traders got the tender.However, there were complaints of sub-standard goods being supplied to the hostels as wells as there were irregularities in the quantity of the supplied items.
