A 20-year-old man is facing charges after he refused to stop his minivan and dragged a Chicago Police officer Saturday night in the South Side Gresham neighborhood.

John Gill faces two counts of resisting or obstructing a peace officer, one count of unlawful restraint and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, all felonies, according to Chicago Police.

Officers stopped the minivan at 8:35 p.m. Saturday for traffic violations in the 7600 block of South Eggleston, police said.

When the officers walked up to the minivan, Gill refused to get out and sped away, police said. One of the officers was pinned between the passenger-side door and the van, and dragged to 7600 S. Eggleston, where the minivan hit a pole.

The officer was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Gill was taken into custody, and a weapon was recovered.

Gill, of the Back of the Yards neighborhood, also faces seven traffic citations, police said.

He was ordered held on a $150,000 bond at the Cook County Jail, and is next scheduled to appear in court Friday, according to Cook County sheriff’s records.
