Letter: West Texas sends a message to GOP

The voters of West Texas sent a message to the fringe of the GOP.

Leave your attacks, leave your negativity, and leave West Texas alone.

The idea that a few wealthy individuals could buy these state House and Senate seats - to control them from the gallery - will not stand.

The Texas GOP is not one size fits all.

In order to secure the growth and sustainability of the Texas GOP, we need leaders who can compromise, not alienate; foster pro-business policies, not expand the scope of government disguising it as conservatism; fight for the rights of all Texans, not just those who scream the loudest.

And most importantly, we need leaders who honorably represent the voters of their districts with thoughtfulness and common sense and not out of fear of retaliation from special interests.

It is time to come together, to embrace the ideals of Ronald Reagan, to fight for our common beliefs and not fight over the differences. It is time for Republicans of all walks to get involved on the precinct, county, state, and national level.

These advocacy groups retain power and have infiltrated the Republican Party with this fringe ideology due to a lack of diversity of the Republicans that engage in these processes.

I call on you to get involved, to serve, to present resolutions, and to bring the GOP back to a party that can accommodate and welcome all.

Congratulations to the teams that secured common sense conservatism in West Texas.

Congratulations to state Sen. Kel Seliger, state Rep. Four Price and state Rep. Ken King.
