Police Activity Resolved Without Injury In Del Ray

Students walking home from school be accompanied by an adult due to police activity on Hume Avenue.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—A portion of Hume Avenue was closed as Alexandria Police conducted a welfare check Wednesday afternoon. As of 4:35 p.m., the incident was resolved without injury.

According to police, a welfare check means officers are trying to contact a person in need or services or assistance.

Residents encountered police activity and road closures for several hours in the 300 and 400 blocks of Hume and adjacent streets on Montrose Avenue. Streets began to reopen as police cleared the scene.

Due to police activity, Alexandria City Public Schools asked adults to accompany students walking home in the area.
