Hannibal, Mo.–The William Penn wrestling team took advantage of an under-manned Hannibal-LaGrange crew Tuesday, winning its final dual meet of the year 29-24.

The Statesmen (3-5) earned three forfeits and netted bonus-point victories in two other bouts to get past the Trojans (2-8).

Darquell Pierre (Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla., Sociology) won via forfeit at 133 pounds to even the score at 6-6, while 141-pounder Tyshon Cannon (Sr., LaGrange, Ga., Psychology) put the navy and gold up for good with a 21-6 technical fall triumph over Kyle Allen. Ben Freese (Jr., Winterset, Iowa, General Accounting) then pushed the advantage to 17-6 by collecting another forfeit at 149 pounds.

The next matchup went to H-LG, but Johnny Hopper (Sr., Basehor, Kan., Psychology) got all six of those points back at 165 pounds by pinning Kaleb Greening in 3:42 to make the score 23-12.

Dylan Comstock (So., New Sharon, Iowa, Business Management and General Accounting) concluded his squad’s scoring with one more forfeit win at 184 pounds to secure the meet victory.

Next Up: William Penn will send some of its younger grapplers to Pella Saturday to compete in the Central Freshman-Sophomore Tournament. The varsity crew will then conclude its regular season next Saturday, February 16 by hosting the Heart of America Athletic Championships in Oskaloosa. The Heart Championships will serve as the qualifying tournament for the NAIA National Championships.

285–Brendon Lunsford (H) won by decision over Gerardo Suarez, 6-2 (29-24)
