Area Sports Notes: Dryden, Haynes lead Covenant win over Maryville

With 23 points and seven rebounds from Berto Dryden and 17 points and 13 rebounds from Caleb Haynes, Covenant College defeated visiting Maryville College 80-73 in USA South men's basketball Wednesday night. It was the first league loss of the season for Maryville (14-5, 10-1). Dryden made six of his eight 3-point shots and Haynes was 8-of-10 from the field overall for Covenant (10-8, 5-5), which got 15 points on five 3s from James Mitchell and five assists apiece from Jared Jauch and Bailey Spragg. Emier Bowman from Dalton High School led Maryville with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

» Freshman Aaron Burress had 23 points and 11 rebounds for Dalton State in its 103-81 win Tuesday night against Voorhees in Denmark, S.C. Isaiah Box was 5-of-8 on 3-pointers and contributed 21 points and four assists for the Roadrunners (18-4), ranked 11th in NAIA Division I, and Carnilious Simmons scored 19 points. Raheem England and Reed Dungan added 13 and 12.
