Retail therapy! Alyson Hannigan leaves the kids at home as she indulges herself with a rare solo trip to the shops

With two busy young girls to occupy her time, Alyson Hannigan rarely gets a moment to herself.

So The How I Met Your Mother star couldn't have looked happier as she managed to find the time for an indulgent shopping trip on Monday.

The 40-year-old actress carried a bag of purchases as she left the LA branch of Paul Smith.

Dressed in casual clothing, she stepped out wearing a striped top and denim jeans for a solo outing.

The bubbly screen star appeared to be in good spirits as she crossed the street to return to her parked car.

Hannigan was wearing a black and white striped tank top, lightly faded skinny jeans and beige wedged shoes.

The American Pie actress covered up her fresh-faced face with oversized tan sunglasses and carried her white and blue shoulder bag.

The mother-of-two was out and about alone without her husband Alexis Denisof and young daughters, Satyana and Keeva.

Alyson recently shot a pilot for the CBS multi-camera sitcom, More Time With Family.

Executive produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, the storyline centres around a husband and father, played by actor Tom Papa, who makes a career change to spend more time with his family.

Since wrapping How I Met Your Mother in late March, she has not been on screen since then.

Hannigan told Time about her new project, 'coming off of nine years, I wasn't going to do something unless I absolutely fell in love with it.'

'I was thinking that'd be down the road, and then I read this script. In a way it’s helped me with the closure of How I Met Your Mother, because I have something that I'm so very much looking forward to,' she shared with the publication.
